Metadata and Classification Schemes

Melissa Rogerson & Associates is experienced in the use and application of several industry-standard metadata schemes and has developed extensible, standards-compliant Metadata schemas for two state government departments. Both schemas have been designed to comply with the Victorian Electronic Records Strategy (VERS).

Melissa has developed metadata for a number of key Victorian government sites and has trained and mentored key staff in developing appropriate, relevant, standards-compliant metadata. She has worked extensively with functional and subject-based classification systems and has created subject thesauri for a number of clients.

Information architecture

Melissa Rogerson & Associates has a thorough understanding of information access priorities, with comprehensive experience in designing accessible information flows for large and small sites.

Our consultants have developed information architectures for Internet and Intranet sites, leading to easier navigation and access to content.

Melissa has a strong interest not only in top-level information architecture but also in the detailed structure of documents and web content and in how this can be used and manipulated to improve readability and usability.

Document, Information and Knowledge management

Melissa Rogerson & Associates has experience with a number of document, records and web content management systems and is well-versed in the their principles and implementation.

We have consulted on several implementation projects, through metadata model development, business requirements specification and user education and test plan development.

We recognise the importance of and are skilled in building communities within an organisation or practice area, and have strong research interests in online and off-line community building.

Governance and project management

Our consultants have a thorough understanding of the principles of IT governance, particularly in the management of websites and teams.

We have implemented a number of different governance models with both central and distributed authoring and quality control models, and have extensive experience in identifying and documenting business processes, both as an end in itself and in preparation for reviewing or automating the processes.

We have developed a significant body of training and user documents on a range of recent projects spanning a variety of audiences and user types and showing varying levels of complexity.
